Set up in December 2001, with an initial investment of approximately 14 million Euros, Photovoltech has the backing of three major shareholders: Total (47.8%), Suez - Electrabel - Soltech (47.8%) and IMEC (4.4%). Total and Electrabel are already commercially active in the field of photovoltaic solar energy through their respective subsidiaries Tenesol and Soltech. IMEC (Interuniversity Microelectronics Center) is one of the world’s leading research institutes, with a proven reputation in photovoltaic research. Using state-of-the-art high-tech equipment, Photovoltech started production of multicrystalline silicon solar cells in November 2003.
